Hello! Hello! Hello!

Check it out! They made the Cover. LOL!!!! Zannoah of Zandustry had this to say "He really put us in, I didn't believe he would... I don't like the picture, but we are on the Cover!" as she laughed. (Clip has been increased for your view pleasure.)

Don't forget to check them out along with Girls of Topaz at the 2nd Annual Reggae Festival this weekend @ Union Park!

Venus Zine’s 4th Annual Craft-Off Contest

Hello All You Wonderful People!!!!

Well if you have some really cool ideas for a Great DIY or Craft Project that cost under $40 for materials than you have got to enter it into the Venus Zine's 4th Annual Craft-Off Contest! They are looking for the funnest, coolest, most creative project you can think of for a great gift idea. It can be an update or upgrade to a cute top or an all out construction project, that may use some unusual items or unexpected addition. Your Project will be published and you will go down in Crafter History forever! Forever! Forever! LOL!! But you will be featured and get a cool Singer Sewing machine!

RULES SHMULES

- Your project should be an innovative, unusual creation using materials whose total cost does not exceed $40. We’re looking for jewelry, clothing, home décor, furniture, bags, accessories, bath and body works, pet goodies, and whatever else you can think of. Try to come up with unexpected uses for objects, or put a new spin on an old favorite. Surprise us with your boundless creativity. The mission is to create gifts to give during the holiday season, but your project doesn’t need to be holiday-themed.

- Your entry consists of two parts:
1. Digital photographs of your project: We will not actually run your photos, so don’t worry about doing a high-tech photo shoot. Instead, we will conduct our own photo shoot for the magazine.

2. A set of instructions for assembling it. How-tos should be concise but sufficiently detailed so that Venus Zine readers may replicate your work. Please include a materials list that gives the approximate cost of each material.

- Any Venus Zine reader is welcome to participate, whether you’re a DIY businessperson or just have a flair for the crafty. Unfortunately, if you’re related to a Venus Zine staffer, you cannot apply. (You know how it goes – we wouldn’t want it to look like we’re biased.)

For more info visit VenusZine

Acrylick, a Music-Inspired Streetwear Brand, Drops Summer Collection, Online Exclusives, Opens a Flagship Store & Featured at Rock the Bells Aug 9th

Hello,

I am back, don't get use to me hitting you up with info everyday, but I will try to for the next few days. Just working on getting my blogging weight up and moving this form of communication in the right direction for Out Da Trunk and Che Woo Design. Well you may or may not know that we run Che Woo Design a Street Brand, no I didn't call it apparel or clothing brand. Our mission is not totally in the world of T-shirts and Apparel but we love to keep up to date on other who are all about Streetwear and the hip-hop culture that are making some pretty big moves. Today we are taking a look Acrylick. Wow! I was looking around on Label Labs a cool site, somewhat like Myspace but for indie people in the apparel game or trying to break in, to post press releases and get info or connected to manufacturers and retailers.

Well they posted a nice little blurb about what is up with Acrylick. First let me start by saying I like what I've seen out of this camp for a while, but the colors and graphics from their summer '08 line caught my eye and I had to check it all out @ www.Acrylick.net and share the info with you. Normally I would give a little background, but I couldn't really find info on their start, but I do have their mission and vision. The political and motivational messages in their summer line is crazy I am personally lovin the "Knowledge is Life" with Talib and my husband Mos Def holding a sign that reads "A life without knowledge is Death in Disguise." True! True! True! You have got to check out the meanings behind there design on www.acrylick.net. I don't know them, they don't know me, but this $#@! is tight!

MANIFESTO:

Acrylick is a metaphor for the journey of life and the pursuit of finding ones soul and own individuality in this world. The masses may first perceive the word acrylic as being only related to paint, but when analyzed to a deeper symbolic level it is much more. Acrylics are used to paint and can be easily seen as an element we use to express our feelings, emotions, individuality, and soul onto paper, canvas, wood, ect. It is a material that we use to put what we have in our minds and hearts out to the world visually. Acrylick intends our clothing to have the same purpose. Acrylick clothing is not meant to make the individual the wears our clothing one of norm, nor do we try to push conformity. Instead we intend to have individuals to use our clothing as a way to find their own originative spirit by expressing what they feel within by wearing our clothing to express it visually without.

That's hot! Now moving forward to the store location where you can see all their exclusive designs:
631 N. Azusa Ave
Azusa CA 91702
626.334.9922

In LA check them out at Rock The Bells, who's line-up is super sick! On August 9th.

Advice for the day! Look at your counterparts, not as competition, but as a map or guide. They can show you what to do and what not to do. Where they fall short, you see the lack and pick-up what they missed, which may make you the next act to follow. Do your thing and stay true to your mission.

Thanks, Che

Re: Who are High Quality Shirt Wholesale?

Hello All!

This is a Q & A Reply type of day! Let's jump right to it!

Okay, I recently received a Text Message from a New/Emerging Designer about "High Quality Shirts at Wholesale Prices" or should I say "referring some High End Blank Supplier to him."

This is for those of you who want to have a "High End T-Shirt Line," I am not too sure what that means, but I will tell you one thing I believe it involves a little bit more than just having a nice base or blank shirt to start from. Not taking away from the high grade blank, but I would like to reinforce the idea "more bells and whistles in one's mind equals more money." So, know you need some bells with that whistles!

If you have any insight on what a High End T-Shirt is or what makes it different from just your regular high priced t-shirt, hit me up! Email: outdatrunkshow@gmail.com, I would love to hear what you think that means.

High Quality Blank:
There are several companies I have worked with to supply me blanks that have many options in the world of higher graded fabric and nicely cut shirts. No, American Apparel is not one of them! Since I am not too clear on what info this person is looking for I will tackle this question from a few different angles. But before I start, I would ask that anyone who is interested in the apparel game become informed in the area of fabrics:

Does it shrink when washed?

How the color fades when washed or hold dye in general?

Does it stretch?

Comfort, is it comfortable? Durable?

What is the general use? Causal wear? Sports? Is it Breathable?

On the most basic level what 100% Cotton is or how it feels what are the advantages? and disadvantages? are to selecting this for your project.

Next why and when to choose a 50% Cotton 50% Polyester? How it feels? as well as the benefits and draw backs to choosing it over the 100%?

Is it in the Cut?

Since I am not too sure where this guy is coming from with this question. Let's talk about the cut of the shirt. American Apparel does a very basic square, box like cut. But if you look at brands like Ed Hardy (not on the top of my list of things to do), but you start to see more tailored cut shirts. They are tapered or a slimmer fit and the fabric is soft and fluffy, not hard like your commonly used brands. Now some of your Hanes, AAA and Gildan shirts have different line to offer a more quality fabric even a better fit, which the price will reflect these upgrades! I just don't think of the basic cut shirt as "High End!"

Now there are several companies I like, they are not in the order of my preference: Article.1, Continental Clothing Collection (They are on a Euro System) and Alternative Apparel. There may be someone else but this are generally the companies that I get blanks supplied. Alternative I believe have started to make tare-away labels and offer burnout tees, reverse seams and unfinished details, A1 has heavy weight shirts, euro fit and some unfinished seam options and CCC has tee, polos and hoodies that are distressed or the worn look the hoods are also doubled back (having the outer fabric as inner lining of the hood). Before I proceed you must have all you business paperwork in order. You can't see the clothing offered by some of this companies on their website without an account. You will need your BL and RP, got you all confused? You Business License and a Reseller Permit. If you can view the items you get the Retail purchasing price, not wholesale.

I am going to move on to What I think really makes a person think or say a brand is higher end.

I would like that with "The Works"!

Printing techniques with a little shine on top! Wow! I love it when someone whats to do something but has no knowledge of what it takes. So, they hit me up to give them just a taste of my knowledge. High t's are high end because they cost more to produce. You have to select you printer wisely and know that every printer works with the same materials. Many opt out of doing certain services or require larger volume to produce that run for you.

High end shirts use several types of printing techniques:

Discharge:
Commonly used on darker shirt, the shirt color is removed from the fabric and replaced with the ink color. Has a soft hand to it and you will need to inquiry with your printer about this service.

Water-base Silk Screen: This is for your light colored shirts and has a soft hand as well and shirt color will show through ink color almost like a dying process. The ink dries fast some many printer will offer it for larger volume runs.

Embroidery:

Getting you logos, icons, wording or artwork stitched into the garment to add texture and dimension to your design. Pricing based on thread count.

Foil Print:
I use some foil on some of my designs. This can cost based on size or amount of coverage or per placement. Every company doesn't offer foil prints, they may refer a Metallic ink, because this requires two steps. Applying the ink and than applying the foil, heat press and remove left over foil. Price is really effected by volume, for small runs can cost $5 to $10 a hit.

How about a little Bling! Bling!:
So you really want to get flashy? Rhinestones and studs are cool accents, but they can really add up as well as pick the application that is more successful for your line. Rhinestones can be fixed to garments with glue or with a fixture (the small metal case that hold it to the garment). I like the fixture, because they add something extra to the design, but the adhesive may be more cost effecting or the visual effect that yo may be looking for.

Patches:
I really like patches and badges. They can really be a cool way to upgrade that shirt, but they require vector art and are priced similar to your embroidery with thread count effecting the cost.

PVC Moldings:
Polo and Sean John use these. They are stitched to the sleeve of the shirt or are the rubber-like zipper tab shaped like the logo or with the logo cave out of it. You can pick PMS color or just go with one. The initial cost on the is the mold, than you go into you price count. Min is normally 1000 pieces.

Labels and Tags:

You don't even have your label yet. You can opt to have it imprinted in the neck (tagless) or you have to pick a higher grade of thread for your woven label. The high grade of the thread or the finest of it effects the about of graphic detail that can created and the softer the label is to the touch. Men this is a little longer than I hoped it would be, but I am going to close this out.

I hope that it has been helpful to those of you who are looking into, have started or are developing a t-shirt line. The list above of addition or options for techniques for your designs go far beyond that. I just wanted to list a few basic one on the higher end of the gage for street wear. But I would suggest learning more on your own and building your knowledge of what you want to produce. And please make sure you are really ready to go on the journey that you have stated. If you have no idea what that mission is how can you be successful at it. Look at brands you admire or that are targeting the market you want, see what they do and see if you can find sources that offer those same services.

Thanks, Che
If you have a question concerning marketing, building a brand, sourcing or just want some general input on your designs or creations email me at outdatrunkshow@gmail.com. I would be glad to sure my knowledge with you!

Milwaukee Ave. in like Logan Squarish/Bucktownish area had it's Official Brand Party on Thursday July 24th from 6 to 10. Your's truly Che Woo Design was the Lady of the night, the only female created brand to go into this new concept shop. They offer cool salon services and a sneaker junky paradise at the same time. You can get your hair braided, trimmed and some fresh gear all in one place. How cool is that! Wait let me through back that statement: Get ya dope kicks, raw gear and a tight do all in one spot, now that's def! LOL!!!

Rock The Bells
Man when will it ever end! Guru, Tribe, Common, Da La and the list goes on to Mos and Talib, okay! Stop it you are killin me, because I was at the Pitch Fork, very sad and hot. Wishing and longing to be closer to the music that I love!! I can't go on, so I will just end it here. I don't think I will make the Pitchfork my next entry, but I did see half okay like 1/12 of the Wu. My BD Ghostface and who is that other guy? No just kidding Reakwon. I'll post some images later.

Lollapalooza 2008 in Chicago:
Wow! Now how hot was that!!! 120 Bands including but not limited to new and old school MCees: Nas, Tribe, Lupa, Gnarls Barkley and closed out by West. Yeah, sadly I wasn't there, I was hanging out at an event that should have been postponed or canceled all together! but I could feel the music, LOL! as I set stuck in the traffic. But the line ups were super crazy!

Summer in the Chi can get crazy busy with cool shows, concerts, street festivals and horrible Expos that should be wiped off the face of this earth! Take my word for it, they need a new vision! But the events outside that whole Expo thing are really where it's at. Girls of Topaz and Zandustry can be found at the Caribbean Festival coming up in the next few weeks as well as the Bash on Wabash at the end of the month with Che Woo Design.

Have fun! Summer only last for like 2 months in the Chi, so make it Hot!!!!

Re: What is a Linesheet?

Hello,

Well We asked and we have received several questions. The first request we will tackle is the explanation of what is a "Product Line Sheet?"

A Product Line Sheet is a catalog of your line or collection: clothing, toys, artwork, jewelery, paper goods or accessories that you are looking to sell. Your Line Sheet can be as simple as a standard sheet of paper, brochure or as complex as a multi page booklet or catalog, these is total based off your personal budget and needs. Let's start from the beginning, what information do you need to have a complete line sheet:

Below is a Checklist of items you will need to product a complete line sheet:

1. Images, Illustration or rendering of your products

2. Create Item # or Product # this will help you track your sells and stay organized, great as you grow your line. You may want to create an index or naming system (ie. CWF08T06: Che Woo Female-Design Created in 8th month- (T) for Thermal-Year Created 20(06)). You naming system would be specific to your companies needs.

3. Write a short description of the product, this will help inform the potential buyer to what they might expect when they receive the items. This description should include information about the materials used to construct the item (ie. 100% Cotton, Mix Media painting on Canvas...), size (ie. 5ft x 8ft), or sizes offered (ie. s-xl), color schemes (the colors or color combinations available).

So, you sell your merchandise in Pre-packs. Don't know what a Pre-Pack is? If you have a t-shirt line, your t's may come in multiple colors per each design. Let say your design comes in 4 colors, you might offer a 12 Piece Per-Pack: containing 1 piece per size per color. (ie. red: 1-s, 1-m, 1-l, blue: 1-s,...)

4.Price (Wholesale and MSRP): For the pricing you may what to create a separate sheet referred to as a Price Sheet, this would accompany your Line Sheet. Now, you may be saying, Why would I do both a Line Sheet and a Price Sheet?

This comes in handy when you are selling to both stores and the public. The public should receive your Retail Pricing not your Wholesale, providing them both pricing may cause some confusion. It is also a good idea in my opinion because you can distribute the Line Sheets as promotional without prejudice. An additional plus, if any pricing changes occur or a product is no longer available you can simply update your Price Sheet with this changes. This will help in the area of cost efficiency as well, if you produce a high quality or Professionally printed Line Sheet. You Price Sheet can be a white shirt of printer paper with black type in a table.

5. Add a size chart if needed. This will breakdown the garment structure. For example, if you have a denim line, sizes 34-40 may have a different leg length than sizes 42-54 or your product may just come for a specific body type or shape. Charting this will really help in the area of limiting your amount of returns for online sells and understanding if your clothing will fit a stores customer base.

Now your closer to being ready for taking your line officially to the marketplace.

Additional Notes:
Googel "Line Sheet" to look at Line Sheets and "Price Sheets" of major companies and producers. ie. American Apparel or Alternative Apparel, etc... You should find tons of PDFs on the internet.

I hope this information helps you move your company forward and if you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us at outdatrunkshow@gmail.com.

07/08/08

Greetings!

We are only two weeks from the BIG Day, I must say with each day this show is looking better and better! We have some great Sponsors this go round Shut Up! Magazine out of Cali, Allezom Online Magazine, additional media outlets to be named and several clothing/accessory line as well. We have a great line up of sexy models rocking apparel by Z2 Jeans, Che Woo Design, Zandustry and others coupled with accessories from Dragon Fire Creations. I don't think I would be wrong when saying this is an intimate shopping event you will not want to miss. We have some more great ideas that are planned for our wonderful Guest on July 26th, but we will keep them under wrap for now.

Out Da Trunk Show is all about supporting emerging and independent Artist. We also believe and spreading the love, so we are looking into testing the event in Atlanta. Yes, The "A", "A-Town" or "ATL". I don't want to speak too soon, but this is our talk for next season and I know that some of you already have plans for Out Da Trunk Xmas Edition, which is a must. We have to do something to close out the year and say "Thank You" to all those who have helped make this event grow and become as wonderful as it has. On that note, we would like to say Thank You! to Rolling Out for sponsoring our first show, we deeply appreciated your support.

Well I will go for now, but have a few additional notes to add:

Depart-Ment @ Pitchfork is July 18,19 and 20 (Applications are close but visit them for their winter event as well)
DIY Trunkshow is currently taking applications for their winter show
ICE Atlanta winter applications will be open soon
Project and United Tradeshows are coming to NYC July 21, 22 and 23 (Look Out for these shows in Las Vegas in August when the world goes to Sin City to see What's New, What's Hot and What's Not!)

There much more to say, but I am going to leave on this note. Until Next Time!

All Aboard! Woo! Woo! Woo!

Happy Monday,

This is one crazy week we have ahead of us, with tons of street fairs, parties, festivals and carnivals. There are more than enough options for one to chose from. If your are in Chicago, looking for great events with thousands of people checkout www.chicagoevents.com. Those of you who have had enough of these local street fairs and markets that are ready for the big times, hit up biztradeshows.com. You can find information on local, regional, national and even foreign Trade Shows/Events.

With that being said you all you big shots, who are ready to shoot for the stars, July is a Big month in NYC, with Project, United Trade Show and Pool, but August has got it bet with FAME NYC the first week of August followed by MAGIC, Project, POOL, United and Millions of shows going down this season in Las Vegas, but we still have ASR and Agenda hosted in San Diego. Yeah, most of you may have never even heard of some of this shows. Before you go big, you got to read up on what your options are and what is required and if you want to make that major step smoothly. I suggest attending a show you are interested in to see the layout, talk to some of the sellers get a prospective of someone doing what you are planning to do. But if you are truly ready make sure you are ready with the following:

You must have:
Line sheets: (brochure, flier, document with images of your merchandise, with color options, size available, product/item number, per pack break down and please include a size chart)

If you are wondering what some of the items above are, that is not a good sign.

How many will I need?

As a new line playing with the majors you may find that buyers are very sure where they want to go. You only being an afterthought if you stand out enough. With that, depending on the size of the show I would say only 1% to 10% of the number attending will accept your materials, ie. 10,000 possible buyer is 100 to 1000, so producing 500 maybe a safe route, but if you plan to do a mailing campaign before or after your big trade event, it is more cost effective to produce a larger volume, more efficient way to go or even 250 depending on the length of the event, the more days, the more possibilities you may have for meeting new customers/buyers.

We will continue this story on Wednesday. Thanks!

Back in Action!!! Soon to Attack!!!!

Hello All!!!!

We are back to Woo! Out!!!! wild out about the Designers and Artist that take part in the Out Da Trunk Show! We have been away for a while, but we are back in full force. To kick off this new stream of blogs on we are going to Feature the our Out This Galaxy friends of Alien Artifacts.

Out Da Trunk Show 2: Mars Attack is coming in July. Our theme is based around the Design and concept of Alien Artifacts a Cali brand that is truly on the rise. Check out their shirt designs above.

About Alien Artifact:
Alien Artifacts was founded 3 years ago to reflect the philosophy and interest of creator Brian Gooden. Alien Artifacts prescribes to the Unseen reality of what lies beneath the surface or the perception of "Judging a Book by its cover." Alien meaning that someone or something is strange or unusual. Artifact being an item of cultural or historical value; such as a book, a piece of technology or a t-shirt. Together you have an interesting object of great value, you have Alien Artifacts. Breaking all boundaries and exposing what exist beyond the surface. Brian Gooden says, "Alien Artifacts is not a clothing line it's a phenomenon....yA diG!!!!!"

Da Philosophy Behind Season 1

Alien Artifacts Collection has it's own concept. In Season 1 the design titled, "Feed Your Head" (shown above) is what others would consider to be food for thought. Alien Artifacts does not condone drug use, but utilize them as a metaphor for knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. Because like a drug these things can open your mind to imagination and visions, eventually turning you into a free thinker... and each t-shirt for season one is basically revolved around that philosophy.
